In a small mountain village, the local government has been overthrown in a military coup. Villagers have been forced into hiding and an active resistance movement established. Children were rounded up and detained in an abandoned convent run by a drunken and selfish caretaker. Faced with starvation and neglect, they escape and eventually play a key role in ending the tyranny.
